What was your highlight for the day?
Where did you see God or hear God today?
At the end of the day, these are two questions I ask every night for our church group devotions. They seem simple, but often simple questions lead to rich and complex answers. It is one of my favorite times at camp.
Don’t get me wrong. The dance parties, rec-parties, morning celebrations, worship, and mission sites are fun too, but there is something holy about being in a small group of youth and sharing, as what the youth like to say, ”deep thoughts”.
This group devotion time is special for a few reasons. One, after a long day at camp we are tired and spending some downtime with your youth group is a helpful way to process the day. Two, we are a small group of 12 and it allows for our youth to feel comfortable and vulnerable. And finally, I always see the Holy Spirit present in our conversations as we explore what we learned in bible study, worship, and our daily devotions.
The camp theme this year is ”Story”.
Theme Verse: “Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, who is the author of our faith and the one who brings it to its goal.“ (Hebrews 12:2)
They are learning that Jesus is the author of our faith and how they can come along side and participate in the story of the Kingdom of God.
Our youth ministry would not be possible with adult volunteers like Tara Crane and Anna Watts, who are chaperoning the trip this week. Big thanks to them. It also wouldn’t be possible without you and a congregation that financially supports and surrounds our youth in prayer. I am so grateful to be working at KBC, and this work would not be possible without an amazing church congregation.
Please continue to pray for us as we finish out our trip and head back home on Saturday. And when you go throughout this week, I hope each day you can think about your own answers to these questions.
