Our Center opened July 6, 1989, as a two-day-a-week program with 30 children ranging in age from 2 years to 5 years old. The KBC Weekday Early Education Center now operates three days a week, September through May, with an average enrollment of 160. Each classroom provides a lead teacher and assistant teacher with teacher to student ratios below that of state requirements.

Philosophy Statement

It is the philosophy of our Weekday Early Education Center to facilitate growth in the areas of social, moral, cognitive, representational, and physical development. The environment is organized through learning centers which allow children to make choices based on their interests and needs. Activities are informative and fun. Preschoolers learn that life away from home can be secure and loving. Through interactions with others, children develop language skills and growing awareness of themselves creatively. Our staff supports the day to day routine by individualizing the care of each child, resulting in a bond between the children and their care giver. Children are offered activities to challenge them in the areas of number readiness, science and nature, arts and crafts, dramatic play, fine and gross motor skills, language development, and safe, healthy living practices.

Curriculum

Our teaching staff is dedicated to making the Weekday Early Education Center a positive learning experience for preschoolers, two years old through pre-kindergarten. The classrooms are arranged into play-learning centers where children make choices for individual and small group activities. We have a planned curriculum which follows a weekly theme with activities with home living, blocks, puzzles, books, nature, music, and art. The daily schedule involves both vigorous and quiet indoor activities. Each day the children spend a portion of their day outside on our playground developing large gross motor skills. During cold or rainy weather gross motor time is held in our Great Hall. Music instruction, specially designed for the preschooler, is a regular part of our week. Because our center is a Christian weekday early education program, Bible themes and stories are used during the day.
