Community Events

Hands on Kirkwood hosts a variety of events that serve and celebrate our community. We hope one or more of these events will benefit you. We look forward to seeing you on October 22nd.

 

 

Donation Opportunities

Winter Clothes – Drop-off locations for new and gently used winter coats, hats, gloves, boots, scarves, sweaters, etc include Concordia Lutheran, the Kirkwood City Hall, Kirkwood Police Department, Kirkwood Public Library, Kirkwood YMCA, Kirkwood Baptist, Kirkwood United Methodist, Harrison Avenue MBC, and Kirkwood United Church of Christ. Items will be made available for FREE to the public on Saturday, October 22nd at our Winter Clothes Store.

Community Collection – On October 15-16, volunteers will hang bags on doors throughout Kirkwood with a list of needed items for Kirk Care and Nurses for Newborns. On October 22nd, volunteers will return to collect all donated items. If you home does not receive a flyer or if would like to donate items before October 22nd, please contact Kirkwood Baptist Church at 314-965-2349. Click here for needed items.

Specialty Events

KiddoPalooza – A FREE festival that serves and celebrates children and families located on the grounds of the YMCA and Walker Park (325 N Taylor) from 9:30 am – 1:30 pm. Fun and learning stations open at 9:30 am and the live stage performances begin at 10:30 am. Parking is available on the street as well as in the parking lots of First Presbyterian Church on Adams and the rear parking lot of UMB Bank off Washington Street. FREE hot dogs and popcorn throughout the event and FREE Tropical Moose snow cones from 11 am – 1 pm. All events, entertainment and fun stations are FREE including face painting, balloon artists, crazy games, bubble fun, and much, much more. Winter Clothes Store – From 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, come shop for winter clothes including coats, gloves, boots, hats and more. There will be items for all ages and sizes and ALL ITEMS ARE FREE to the public. Located inside Kirkwood Baptist Church (211 N Woodlawn Ave).

FREE Electronic Recycling – Thanks to a generous grant from STLCC Meramec, Hands on Kirkwood will be expanding our electronic recycling program. Anything with a plug can be brought to the STLCC Meramec Campus parking lot A on the corner of Big Bend Blvd. and Couch Ave. for recycling. 2 TV limit per vehicle. Click here for flyer. Electronics can be dropped off from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.

FREE Paper Shredding – Thanks to Shred-It, residents can find a safe, confidential, and environmentally friendly way to discard documents and papers with sensitive, confidential, or personal identity information. Paper shedding will be located near the Electronic Recycling at St. Louis Community College at Meramec. Items accepted 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Two box limit per car.

Dog Park – From 9:00 am – 1:00 pm let your dog romp and play with friends in a safe environment. Held on the grounds of Kirkwood Baptist (211 N Woodlawn), this event is great for neighbors with two and four legs. A few rules ensure fun for all. 1. Clean up after yourself and your dog. 2. Please no dogs in heat. 3. All dogs must have up-to-date vaccination. 4. Only dogs over four months old please.

Winter Car Check-Up – Ever wonder if your car is ready for the winter? Well, wonder no more. Stop by Kirkwood Baptist at 211 N Woodlawn from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm where volunteers will inspect fluid levels, tire inflation and wear, wiper blades, batteries and point out any items visitors need to address with their local mechanic. Wiper fluid will be available if needed and tires will be properly inflated all for FREE.

Symposium on Diversity – Sponsored by the Human Rights Commission, this important event highlights the need for continued conversation and understanding around issues of diversity that can lead to positive community building. Attendees will hear from Keynote Speaker U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Kansas City) and are encouraged to offer questions and comments during the panel discussion. Event will take place at the Keating Center at Kirkwood High School (801 West Essex) from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm with informational booths open before and after the event.

Social Justice Festival - Sponsored by the Kirkwood High School Social Justice Club and taking place at Station Plaza (141 East Madison Ave) beginning at 4:00 pm, this event celebrates the themes of social justice with music, dance, poetry, juggling, and community spirit.
