Local Community Mission and Ministry

Believing is Seeing Tutoring Change a life with just one afternoon a week. KBC volunteers tutor one day a week from 3:45 to 5:15 pm on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from October through May at Turner School in Meacham Park. Believing through giving of yourself is seeing what your time can mean to a growing mind.

Bosnian Outreach and Family Food Pantry Each Saturday food is distributed to families as an outreach ministry to the Bosnian community in south St. Louis.  Volunteers serve every eight weeks to pick up and deliver food.

Community For Understanding & Hope (CFUH) In the quest to transform the Kirkwood Area into a prejudice-free community of highly respectful individuals, CFUH initiates ongoing dialogue and social interaction to create an environment of understanding and healing.

Community Gospel Choir Love to sign gospel music? This is the group for you! The mission of the Community Gospel Choir is to help unite our community through song.

Friendship International Friendship International is an outreach to the families of international students residing and learning in the St. Louis area.  Classes on citizenship, crafting, and cooking are held each Wednesday at Third Baptist Church while childcare for the students’ family is provided.

Greentree Festival The Greentree Festival is an annual Kirkwood community festival with food, games, crafts, and entertainment held each year in September. KBC has participated in a variety of ways, including the parade, hosting an information booth, and running a food booth. Volunteers are needed each year to man the booths and help in the parade. The 50th anniversary Greentree Festival will be held on September 17, 18, and 19, 2010.

Hands on Kirkwood (HOK) This annual one-day event, is a MissionALL opportunity uniting everyone at KBC in fellowship and a single purpose in serving the serving the needs of the Kirkwood community.  Serving opportunities include, electronic recycling, small home repairs, lawn work, nursing home visits, Kiddo-palooza, a dog park, and more. On October 13, 2007, almost 300 KBCer’s were involved in HOK. Save the Date! Hands On Kirkwood happens on October 9, 2010.

Kirkcare Food is collected regularly at our church to support the community sponsored ministry of Kirkcare. Kirkcare volunteers deliver smiles and friendship with food to those in need. In addition to food delivery from their local pantry, Kirkcare also provides assistance with utility bills and rent, school supply purchases in the R-7 school district, and Christmas food and gift boxes.

Men’s Prayer Breakfast All men are welcome at KBC everyday and especially on the second Saturday morning of each month. Good food, great fellowship and the blessings of prayer are always on the menu.

Scrip Fundraising Please stop by the Scrip table Sunday and help support KBC Missions. This program allows you to purchase gift cards at face value and the church earns a percentage from the company, anywhere from 2 – 15 %. Click here for more information.

Stephen Ministry Stephen Ministries is a program of lay pastoral counseling and caregiving founded by Rev. Kenneth C. Haugk at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Missouri in 1975. It is now active in more than 9000 congregations in over 100 denominations. The Stephen Ministries program equips lay people to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to individuals in our congregation and community who are experiencing difficulties in their lives.

Stix House KBC takes a turn with other churches once each year to provide lunch for international students at Stix House on the campus of Washington University.

Widows Might As a new initiative of Global Women, this group is exploring ways to encourage widows and strengthen relationships during a unique time in their lives.  Lunch meetings are held on the 3rd Sunday of the month in addition to other get-togethers and outing opportunities.
