June...
I don’t typically take this space to tell you about my schedule, but this week I will. If you don’t see me as much in June, I don’t want you thinking I’m on some island sipping
coconut juice and eating bon bons. Not that there's anything wrong with "beach rest," it’s just that I won’t have time for a hammock this month.
First, I’ve been invited to participate in a strategic planning initiative of Kirkwood Public Schools. I’ll be the “clergy rep” among 15 other parents and community members who will help form a 5 year plan for the schools. I’m pleased to be a part of this project although it means a 3 day (in town) retreat – the first two days meet 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.! (Yikes! And you thought my sermons were long.) It meets June 12th – 14th. If you have any relevant thoughts about Kirkwood schools, I’m glad to hear them.
Second, I told Daniel I would go to Passport Youth Camp this year in his stead. It’s the least I could do for a new father, who will already be away for mission trip and Passport Kenya later in the summer. Donna, Matt Forbis, and I will chaperone our youth to Macon, Georgia. We leave June 16th and will return on the 23rd. As you may have noted, Daniel will be preaching on the 17th in my stead.
Third, on June 27th I will travel to Washington D.C. for the national meeting of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. As always the meeting will be filled with interesting
seminars, but this year the meeting is quite historic; not simply because of its location, but because the meeting will overlap with the annual meeting of the American Baptist Convention. There will be joint activities, and a joint worship service. If you’re interested, look at the CBF
website: www.thefellowship.info
Fourth, I will fly from WDC to DFW, where on June 30th I will officiate at the wedding of Lauren White (daughter of Todd and Caren). This is obviously a very happy occasion, and I’m honored to be a part of it. And as a consequence you will be privileged to hear Rev. James Lockhart on July 1st. Jim is a longtime KBCer, and retired chaplain of Missouri Baptist Medical Center.
In July I plan to do nothing but work, and rest. Feel free to bring coconut juice and bon bons to my office.
