Sept. 13 - Building

This is a pic of the interior – on Wednesday afternoon. It won’t be too long. I'll try and post a before shot. From left: Peter of Bela Cyrkva, a very enthusiastic church member, Bill Trefts, Mike Hethcote (in the foyer) and Dan West (working on wall). (Please read previous post on the day!) Posted by Picasa

Serbia, Sept 13, 06

Well OK, I give up. It’s not going to happen. Each night I have had hopes of getting to an internet café, but again it’s 11:00 pm, and we’ve just got home. I have a turtle-style connection through my cell phone, so this will have to do.

The picture to the left is Leigh Ann, Michele, Ann, Sara, and Mira who are at a village school. They are teaching the “heads and shoulders” song to surprised and slightly scared kids. It was great fun. The children loved it – after their fears subsided. In the afternoon the church kids of Bela Cyrkva gathered in a home and had an afternoon VBS. Then the women led a “sisters meeting.” This was greatly appreciated. They got to the church where the men were finishing the “clean up” so that we could have a kind of consecration/communion service to celebrate the great work done on the interior.

This service was extraordinary. The work done on the building – work done by our group and the local members of the Vrsac and Bela Cyrkva churches – amazed us all. The interior was completely transformed. The foam insulation covers both walls and ceiling. The walls have their first coat of stucco. The bathroom walls are built, and the doors are hung. The foyer is almost complete. The service was a response of praise and gratitude to God. I preached on the wisdom of Solomon who recognized that no temple could contain God, but who built the temple as a place for people to gather to worship. We celebrated communion with bread, wine, and plastic cups set on boxes of foam. Ann Heir and Michele Mote had us all in tears again with their singing and music leadership. It was a beautiful evening. Posted by Picasa
