Serbia Tuesday Sept. 12

Here Bill Trefts and I are standing besides metal “studs” – can you recognize which is which? Ha! With such attempted humor, you might intuit that it is 11p.m. and we’ve just come in, having left the house at 8:00 a.m. It’s been a long, but short day.

The 10 of us drove to Bela Cyrkva this morning, where we all worked on the building interior. Major progress was made on building bathroom walls, and on finishing the interior insulation. I’m so proud of the non-stop workers. When we leave, we will have turned an empty shell into a place of worship. It won’t be finished, but it will be a safe place to praise.

About mid-day the women visited a village kindergarten. We joined up for another stupendous Serbian meal. The men returned to the building and the woman conducted a VBS in Parta, a Romany Gypsy village. We all met up there at 7:00 for a service. I preached in my work-clothes, and Michele and Ann blessed us with a song. The folks loved it (well, the singing anyway).

We were fed a large meal by the church leader who happens to be a baker. It was long and fun. We laughed our way into 10:00 pm. I have forgiven Sara Kaplan for stealing all the potatoes. Ann Heir, whose Serbian is impressing all of us, really impressed our hostess with a question in the local tongue. She was so impressed, she laughed for 10 minutes. None of us are quite sure what Ann said, but whatever it was seemed too off color for a Gypsy woman to repeat.

Again it was too late to get to a decent connection in order to upload many pictures. This is the best I can do. It’s now time for bed! Posted by Picasa
