God's Green Earth Symposium at KBC - Feb. 3-4

Environmental concerns have increasingly caught the national spotlight. The growing awareness of climate change, concern over finite resources, the polluting of our water and air... these are issues which affect every human being on the earth. Hence they are matters which carry an ethical imperative. If we care about our children and grandchildren, if we care about the poor who are dispoportionately affected by climate change, then we have a moral responsibility to "clean up our act." Or so it seems to many. But this issue, like so many, has been fraught with loads of misinformation.

In the past, Christian people have been at the front of major moral issues (slavery, civil rights, educating the poor, etc.). Our leadership on environmental issues is spotty at best. This symposium is an effort to take a good look at two things: 1) the current science of climate change, 2) the moral responsibility resulting from what we have learned AND our call as followers of Christ.

All are invited to come learn, discuss, engage. The speaker are:

Dr. Brad Jolliff-- Professor of Earth and Planetary Science--Washington University
"Earth's history ,its cycles and how it relates to us today and global warming."

Dr. Emily Christensen--Assistant Professor of Natural Sciences--Missouri Baptist University
"The science behind global warming".

Mr. David Neil--Adjunct Instructor Mathematics--Missouri Baptist University
"How we know that the greenhouse effect produces global warming and climate change"

Dr. Scott Stearman--Senior Pastor, "Loving Jesus and Hugging Trees."

Sunday, Feb. 3: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Monday, Feb. 4: 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Stephen Ministers program started at KBC

Following the prayers and efforts of several KBCers (including the Senior Pastor), the leadership of the Church Leadership Council, and the Ministry Council the church has started a new pastoral care initiative. We have been blessed by the presence of a leader who has been trained to teach and lead.

Stephen Ministers serve the congregation by providing pastoral care to individuals in times of loss such as death, job loss, divorce, etc…

Are you a Stephen Minister?

If this interests you, training classes begin Saturday, January 26th and continue on Tuesday evenings, starting January 29th for 18 weeks.

Contact Kathryn Rogers at kmrogers@charter.net for more information.

The deadline to sign up is
Sunday, January 20th.
