Mission "Home Front" at KBC
This article is taken from the March 2 edition of the Kirkwood Webster Times:
Mission: Homefront
Event on the first Saturday of each Month Through Saturday, May 05, 2007.
Times: 10 a.m.
Phone: 314-517-5844
Location: Kirkwood Baptist Church
Mission: Home Front is an open door meeting for adult, immediate and extended family of recently deployed or newly returned military personnel in the current wars (Iraq and Afghanistan). Meetings allow participants to give and receive support and strength through the shared experience rather than through political, religious, military or group therapy settings. The purpose of the gathering is to allow family members who currently are not receiving emotional support to develop a network to meet these needs. Each individual is free to share or to withhold personal information, and assume full responsibility for their decision in this regard. As such, Mission: Home Front has no membership roll, fee or elected leadership.
Mission: Home Front grew from the experience and concerns of two mothers of deployed sons. Families living on or near military installations usually have access to services and support networks, but those who do not, as well as extended family members living elsewhere, can feel isolated from people who understand their situation. As mental health professionals themselves, these mothers realized just how important support is during this extremely stressful time and set about to reach out to bring people together.
Mission: Home Front is not a political forum, not a religious meeting and not a group therapy. Individuals attending are free to share or to withhold personal information. Everyone is welcome to bring photos and mementos of their service member.
The group meets on the first Saturday of the month at 10 am. The first meeting is scheduled for Saturday, March 3. Meetings are free and no membership is required. All adults over the age of 19 are welcome to attend. Meeting space is being provided as a community service by Kirkwood Baptist Church, Adams and Woodlawn, in Kirkwood. Guest speakers from the community will be invited occasionally for the purposes of providing information and support to those in attendance. Sorry, no childcare can be provided at this time therefore no children are allowed.
