Hands on Kirkwood Logo

Saturday, September 27th
9:00 AM -- 1:00 PM
(unless other specified time listed)

At Kirkwood Baptist Church, we believe Christ calls us to move beyond the walls of the church building and to meet, serve, and love our neighbors. Throughout the year, KBC and its members have various ways to be involved in Kirkwood. However, we felt led, called, to do something more; something hopefully with a greater impact on our community and for the kingdom of God. Hands on Kirkwood is that something more.

The goal of Hands on Kirkwood is to involve all KBCers in a one day "mission blitz" of our community. A day where we move beyond the church walls to serve God and love our neighbors. That one day is September 27th and we hope you can participate.

The following events are available at Kirkwood Baptist Church on September 27th. All events are FREE and are from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM (unless specified otherwise).

Kids' Safety and Activity Day
Jesus said, 'let the little children come to me' and we are following his lead with these events for children and parents. We are working with the Kirkwood Police Department and providing Child ID Packages that can be used in case of emergency. In addition, we will have face painting, crafts, and a variety of other fun activities. Outside, we will have a Vehicle Fair where children can get up-close with a fire engine, an antique car, and other vehicles that will capture their attention and imagination. Finally, children can bounce their enthusiasm away in a bounce house and, starting at 11 AM, we will be providing a free kid-friendly lunch!

Winter Car Check
Ever wonder if your car was ready for winter? Well, we're happy to help. Simply come to the rear of the building where we will check the air in your tires, visually check the belts and hoses, test your battery and antifreeze levels, and even top off your windshield wiper fluid. These few minor checks won't take long and they can help you prepare for the toughest time of year on your car. And don't worry, you can even stay in your car!

Recycling Drop Off
Being a good steward of our environment is important to living out our faith and to being a good neighbor. KBC is providing a way for you to properly dispose of your electronic devices. Working through local agencies, KBC will be able to accept your computers, printers, cables, home electronics, VCR's, etc. Basically, if you can plug it in, we can take it! There is no charge for this service with the exception of TV's and computer monitors. These have a small $10 fee per item. Many of the items will be delivered to an organization that refurbishes salvageable electronics and donates them to needy families. The recycling drop-off will be located behind the main KBC building. There will also be a paper shredding service on-site. Using the Jefferson Street entrance, simply pull up and unload. You can even stay in your car because we'll be happy to unload it for you.

Music Fest
Our Hands on Kirkwood day will end with a free gospel concert at 4:00 pm. at Kirkwood Baptist Church. Participants in the concert include the Community Gospel Choir, an intergenerational and interdenominational group (http://www.gospelinkirkwood.com/) and the Kirkwood Baptist Church Brass. Free snacks and goodies will be available. Bring the whole family.

Animal Fun Zone
Dog lovers abound in Kirkwood. So as a way to serve man's best friend (and their owners) we will create a dog park by fencing off the northwest corner of our front yard on the corner of Woodlawn and Adams. Inside this area, your best friend can safely romp, roam and run off-leash. It will be a great place for your dog to exercise and socialize. Since Kirkwood does not currently have a dog park, we know not everyone is familiar with the guidelines generally found at dog parks. For our day, please: everyone clean-up after their dog; only neutered and spayed dogs allowed; no puppies under 4 months old; all dogs must have up-to-date vaccinations; and no choke, pinch or spike collars allowed. Cloth or leather collars only. You are responsible for your dog. Be considerate and help your dog exhibit good manners. Don't forget your vet records as proof of vaccination and spay/neuter.

Pet Blessing
Whether you're a dog lover coming to our dog park or your pet comes in a different size, shape, or species, you can have your pet blessed by Senior Pastor Scott Stearman. We recognize that animals and pets are important members of our world. In fact, many consider them extended members of the family. At our pet blessing, we honor those members of your family and we give thanks for they are truly gifts from God. Pet lovers are invited to bring their pets from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM for an individual time of blessing.

Other "Hands on" Events
In addition to all the events for our community happening at KBC, KBC is also going out into our community. Hundreds of KBC members will be serving throughout Kirkwood in various ministry settings. Children will sing to and visit with their senior neighbors at the St. Agnes home. Many will be doing yard work and providing minor home repairs for those who are unable to do those projects themselves. Several will be going door-to-door, offering to perform basic household chores such as changing light bulbs, providing batteries for smoke detectors, and simple yard work. We will be serving community servants - police, fire, YMCA, Library, etc., by providing lunches and/or thank you baskets, providing yard work services or helping in the Kirkwood Library.
