Dr. Scott Stearman, Senior Pastor Scott Stearman began his responsibilities as senior pastor for Kirkwood Baptist Church on February 25, 2003. He has been a pastor since 1989. He has served churches in Oklahoma, Athens, Greece, and most recently in Paris, France (1995-2003). He and his wife, Cecelia, have been married since 1997. They are currently being housed and watched over by two black labs, Josephine and Marie.
Scott was born in Oklahoma. He has a B.A. from Oklahoma Baptist University (Religion/History), a M.Div. in biblical languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, a Th.M. in philosophy and theology from Princeton Theological Seminary; and a Ph.D. in ancient philosophy from the University of Oklahoma. His dissertation was on the epistemology of Xenophanes’ natural theology, but his real interest is food and music… and working with others to understand the relevance and impact of ancient wisdom.
In addition to his pastoral work, Scott has served in a number of other denominational and community capacities. He was a church work assistant for the New York Metropolitan Baptist Association and has served as vice-president and president of the European Baptist Convention (now the International Baptist Convention). His international experience includes a summer at Xinjiang University in China and one summer at the Baptist Lay Academy in Budapest, Hungry. He served as president of the board of directors of the International Baptist Church Ministries based in Fort Worth, TX in 07-08, and is currently the co-vice chair of the board of directors for Doorways (HIV housing).
